This is an interesting post I found and I have to say that quite often there are times when the Lord wakes me up at 3 am to pray and I always wonder why that particular time. I never connected this with how God woke up young Samuel in the bible and spoke to him. On the other hand, I have also had a few very scary awakenings during the night and found myself wrestling with something not of God. Anyway, here’s the post I found:

FROM A FACEBOOK POSTING: How many Believers here have had the 3am wake up call to Pray, or have had any kind of ‘supernatural’ experience, unable to go back to sleep, as though you were wide awake at that time?

We are informed in the Scroll of Samuel (1 Samuel 3: 4) that the Lord communed with the young Prophet-to-be in between the hours of 3am and 6am as follows:

“The Lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the Temple of the Lord where the Ark of God was. Then the Lord called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am.””

The Lamp would go out not long before twilight and the estimate for this time is between 3-6am. So, it appears from this Scripture that this hour of the night is Godly.

However, in contrast there are many people who claim waking at this hour has been frightening, a time of trials and tests, stress and interference from the demonic realm. It has been culturally noted for centuries that this hour was a time when the spiritual realm was most active and hence has inherited the label ‘the witching hour”. In case the question arises, a quick google of the term may list midnight or 3am as the so-called “witching hour”, but the oldest superstitions affirm it as 3am.

In response to this question, whether it is Godly or demonic, I have heard and read the approach to answering the question from Christian psychologists, counselors and ministers that demonic forces use this time to attack Believers as a type of ‘inversion of the time when Messiah died at 3pm’, much as the foolish and rebellious of this world use an ‘inverted cross’ to affiliate with Satanic rites. It is possible but it could simply be that the enemy attempts to mimic the hour in which God speaks to his people. After all, the term ante-christos (“Antichrist”) actually means “one in the place of Christ”. Not “Anti”, although he certainly will be that too.

There is yet the biological and physiological science to consider too. At 3am the human Liver regenerates. It does so by the use of Glycogen. Unfortunately, our Adrenalin uses up our Glycogen when we are under stress so instead of the body producing Glycogen to help our Liver reset at 3am, our body shoots an Adrenalin rush through us, waking us up to a very troubling time…..at 3am.

Please remember that HaSatan or ‘the devil’ is a coward. Demons are also cowards. Do we not recall how they BEGGED and PLEADED with the Son of God to drive them into the herd of pigs instead of going into the Abyss? Or do we forget that HaSatan attempted a slimey request of the Moshiakh, by asking to put Shimon Kephas (Simon Peter) through a sieve for his moment of weakness (disloyalty)?

If you have woken to a terrible trial at 3am, remember that your body and brain are under the stress of Adrenalin, and if the enemy is there, he is attacking you when you are at your weakest.

Turn that hour, the Godly and Spiritual hour of 3am, into an opportunity as a child of God, saved forever, to rely on the Grace of God. To call to Him, and muster the Holy Spirit of Faith to resist the enemy. He WILL flee from you.
